What does Disability mean?
A disability is a condition or function that may restrict an individual’s sensory, mental, or mobility function, to carry out or complete a task in the same way an individual without a disability can. The most commonly associated terms for a person with a disability are often thought to be blind, deaf or a wheelchair user.
Having a disability has most times been seen as negative and terms such as spastic, handicapped, and crippled were often used. Disability can also entail sensory, physical, cognitive or intellectual impairment; various types of chronic disease and mental illnesses may also apply. You do not have to be born with a disability, this can occur any time during an individual’s life span.
